“Smart Start”

I wrote, directed and produced this commercial for Salt lake Community College as part of their new “Smart Start” campaign. The focus of the campaign was on how Salt Lake Community College is smart start to your career goals. After concepting and pitching several different ideas we landed on this one to show how a student could achieve their goals through Salt Lake Community College.

Their were a few challenges with this project. The first was that the idea of doing everything in reverse meant that shots had to be planned with a focus on how they would look in reverse. Because of that I decided to put a focus on shots that included movement with both the camera and the action in the shot. The other challenge was that the main part of the production involved a food truck. This was solved by hiring an actual donut food truck and creating a fake donut brand to cover up their existing branding. The donut food truck also was able to double as catering for the extras in the first shot.
